This year for Carnival we were invited by Fabiano and Michelly to go to the Island of Itaparica for the five day event along with their six month old daughter, Lis. We thought that this would be a perfect opportunity to get to know them better and for our girls to interact with each other. Fabiano's family have a house in the town of Cacha Preggos, his grandma also lives there, right across the street. This picture is of Lis trying pumpkin for the first time. What a fun sight to see! Anyway, our time there was great, we got to see what life would be like outside the big city of Salvador, laid back and quiet, well most of the time. Fabiano's family had a boat and went fishing a few times and exploring the other islands, or more importantly checking out the deserted beaches. We got to see how they got crabs and we had fish every meal which was a bonus for Travis, as I am not fond of fish. We also met many family members of both Fabiano and Michelly's. Ceara did well the entire time, she loves to be with people and enjoys the outdoors as well, so this time was especially fun for her. As for me it was great getting to know Michelly more but after 24 hours a day of speaking Portuguese non-stop I was ready to head home. We even got to see the kind of parties they had on the island, quite a few nights we were blasted with noise by people and cars passing by till three or four in the morning. The highlight of our time of course was spending 7 hours straight in a car with five adults and 2 babies waiting in line for the ferry back home, haha. Okay not the highlight but definitely the most Brazilian thing that happened the entire time. Ask us about it sometime, we would write it all down but that could take 7 hours, haha. However, the time we spent away from Salvador and the crowds and tourists was great. We had sunshine most of the time while Salvador was in the rain. Another bonus of getting away. More importantly was the time that we spend with Fabiano and Michelly, making a friendship that we hope will continue for a long time especially since we have girls that are almost the same age. Thanks to them for inviting us to spend time together.
