Our Portuguese Teachers

Our Portuguese Teachers

Here is a picture of our Portuguese teachers. Travis' teacher is named Jaci, she is on the left. Alicia's teacher is Erika, she is on the right. Recently, we have had some changes to our Portuguese classes. One change was Alicia's class moved from having five students to three. This was a good move for Alicia's class as they were able to have more individual time with their teacher and more one on one conversations. Another change came about a month later when Alicia's teacher, Erika informed them that she had gotten a job in Mexico and was leaving at the end of July. We were sad to have her go but have kept in contact with her as she has moved to Mexico City. Which means that Alicia's class now meets at the Parker's house everyday for three hours on their own. It has been good as Valerie has now joined their class and helps in the grammatics of the language. They are still looking for someone to replace Erika as their teacher but are waiting to see what happens. Travis has also given them many tips on how to make their class productive and fun. Travis continues to go to class with Jaci and enjoys the times he can share Christ with her as they continue to prepare Bible studies that Jaci helps them translate. At the end of the month, Travis will begin conversational classes with one of the preachers from a small Church of Christ in Itinga as he has mastered the gramatics of the language and now needs to just improve his vocabulary and pronunciation. Overall, language has been tough, but each day we are learning more and gaining more confidence in our abilities. Alicia has improved a lot as she can now understand quite a bit and can have conversations with more people. Please continue to pray for us as we work on our language and as Alicia's class searches for another teacher.
